Time for petiole analysis?
WineSkills Vineyard Management & Vine-growing Mentor, Peter Hayes, recommends producers undertake tissue testing of petioles at 50-50% flowering to help assess their seasonal progress and project flowering periods. Initial feedback suggests activity is about 3 weeks delayed although with current warm weather they may catch up. Flowering is therefore likely to be late June then well into July—i.e. probably 4-8 weeks off.
