Soil, vine nutrition and fertilisation

his workshop will provide an understanding of the components of soil fertility particularly water and nutrient availability. It will also cover the vines nutritional requirements, soil management practices and fertiliser usage.

Your trainer for this course will be Jo Cowderoy. Jo Cowderoy has a BSc Hons Agriculture, from the University of Londons, Wye College and has been involved with wine production in both the UK and France since. In the 1980s at one of Englands earliest vineyards, Rock Lodge, in West Sussex, Jo, and her husband, David Cowderoy, a winemaker, produced some of the first English sparkling wines, and were central to the start of Chapel Down Wines. In 2004 Jo and her family moved to a 12ha domaine in the Minervois region of France. As well as being involved in all aspects of vineyard management and production, she set up sales and export markets. In 2009, Jo joined Plumpton College as a lecturer in the wine science centre, teaching viticulture topics including soil science and botany, and is the WineSkills project coordinator.
