Peter Hayes has gained extensive experience in viticultural education, research & development and vineyard investment and management over more than 30 years in the Australian wine industry. Starting off as a lecturer at Dookie Agricultural College, he then became the State Viticulturist, Victoria, the Executive Director, Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC) and acting CEO for the Cooperative Research Centre for Viticulture (CRCV). In 1999 Peter became the Director of Viticulture for Rosemount Estates and in 2002 the National Viticulturist and Industry Affairs Manager for Southcorp Wines/Fosters Wine Estates.
Throughout his career, Peter’s activities have included the management of research and development programs for vine training/canopy adaptation, wine business benchmarking and quality management. He initiated the development of the Cooperative Research Centre for Viticulture’s most successful “Research to Practice” series of professional development activities in addition to developing and presenting many short-courses on vineyard practical skills. He is the author of the book “Profitability of Investment in a Small Vineyard and Winery”.
