Winter pruning

The workshop is being held at Lavenham Brook Vineyard, Sudbury, Suffolk on 2014-01-16 00:00:00, starting at 10:00 and finishing at 16:00.

Winter pruning is one of the most important tasks in the vineyard year. This workshop will improve technical pruning ability, covering the importance of pruning in relation to crop yield and quality, as well as overall vineyard management. The workshop will include both theory and practical. Trainees should be able to use the knowledge gained to make pruning decisions with a view to optimising vine yields, wine quality and overall vineyard management.

Duncan McNeill started working in Viticulture in Central Otago, NZ in 2001. He studied Viticulture at Eastern Institute of Technology in Hawkes Bay, NZ, whilst managing 11Ha vineyard in Central Otago until 2004. Duncan spent 2005 working for a family run 12 Ha wine estate in the Pfalz region, Germany. He came back to England in 2006 to manage New Hall Vineyard in Essex, and to oversee the vineyard expansion of 80 acres. Duncan then became the Viticulture Advisor for FAST Ltd who consult to over 650 acres of vineyards. Duncan now runs his own vineyard management and consultancy business, McNeill Vineyard Management Ltd.
